The NW London Skills Academy launched the Midwifery OSCE Programme in October 2024, following a request from the Directors of Midwifery across the NW London Acute trusts. The training is a requirement for nurses and midwives with some non-UK qualifications to practice, and features a comprehensive three-week programme that integrates teaching, simulation, and mock examinations.
So far, OSCE training has been delivered to three NW London cohorts, with a total of 23 participants and a first-time pass rate of 50%, significantly exceeding the national average.
Amongst the first-time passers is Nuriat, who was also recruited by another NWL workforce programme, NWL Overseas Recruitment.
"I heard about the NWL Overseas Recruitment Programme from a friend. I felt very comfortable answering questions during the interview process, and the panel was very nice. During compliance checks, the team was supportive, responsive, and provided updates at every stage. The OSCE training was good and detailed. The team was motivating and supportive, and by the end of the last week of training, everyone was doing great. Thumbs up to Anna, Giovanna, and the team! I was successful with my OSCE on the first attempt. I will most definitely recommend the NWL Overseas Recruitment and OSCE training team because the entire process was smooth, stress-free, and, most importantly, motivating. It felt really good to navigate the transition with such a great team."- Nuriat Aziz, Registered
Midwife at LNWH
In addition to ensuring that skilled professionals are available to care for our patients in hard-to-fill roles, these programmes are designed to reduce unnecessary spending. Unlike external agencies, the NW London teams do not charge recruitment or training fees to our NHS Trusts.
