Nursing Education Lead / Nursing OSCE Lead

Giovanna Rotundies

My name is Giovanna Rotundi and I am honored to work as the Nurse Education Lead for North West London Health and Social Care Skills Academy. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, a Master's degree in Nursing and Leadership, as well as a Master's degree in Economics.

I also lead on the Nursing OSCE Programme, supporting internationally educated nurses to prepare for and successfully pass their NMC OSCE exam.

I have been working within the NHS for over 10 years, gaining extensive experience in urology, gynecology, and stroke care. Prior to my current role, I worked as a Clinical Practice Educator in the Surgery and Cancer Division at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where I focused on coaching staff, delivering training programs, and supporting the development of clinical skills to enhance patient care.

I am deeply passionate about advancing nursing education, fostering workforce development, and improving patient care outcomes across the health and social care sector. I am dedicated to ensuring that healthcare professionals have access to the training and resources they need to grow, thrive, and deliver exceptional care.

My name is Anna Hultsch. I have joined the Academy as a Midwifery Clinical Educator leading on the Midwifery OSCE training project for colleagues joining the NHS from abroad.

I have qualified in Germany and started my NHS career as a junior midwife at Ealing Hospital in 2010. I have since worked in various clinical roles at Trusts across Northwest London. Although I particularly enjoy working in midwife-led settings supporting woman and birthing people in having optimal care and experiences in their childbirth journey, I'm equally passionate about facilitating education and career development. As a Professional Development Midwife I have foremost worked with newly registered midwives. I'm currently completing a Master's degree in Global Maternal Health.

I believe that through staff education we can make a meaningful contribution to safer care and better outcomes across the sector.

The postnatal station is one of the most common - and often most emotionally nuanced - stations in the OSCE exam.

Here’s how to approach it like a compassionate, prepared midwife:

• Be Structured: Begin with open questions and consent, then use a checklist covering both physical and emotional health.

• Show Empathy: Acknowledge how the parent may be feeling, especially when discussing mental health or healing after birth.

• Safety First: Always look out for red flags (e.g. heavy bleeding, signs of infection, or low mood) and escalate appropriately.

From uncertainty to hope — Omolola’s journey reminds us why we do what we do.

But one afternoon, I saw a link for displaced workers shared online — and that was how my journey with NWL Displaced International Social Care Workers Programme Support began.
From that moment, everything changed. I received prompt replies, was asked to send documents, and I felt hope again. I had a meeting with Charles, and later with Luwan, who gave me useful tips for interviews. Eventually, I was invited to an interview with a new employer — and with the team’s constant support, I got the job!
